Zoning Board of Appeals Overview

The Zoning Board of Appeals hears appeals for denials issued by the Building Administrator, that are contrary to the Zoning Code of the Village of New Athens.  Such appeals may result in the issuance of a Variations to the Zoning Code, thereby allowing for construction which has been denied.

Applications for Variations can be obtained at the Village Hall.

Duties

Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals are appointed by the Village President to 5-year terms.

The Zoning Board of Appeals is responsible to review all applications for an appeal and variations to Chapter 40, of the Municipal Code, commonly known as the Zoning Code, and to make recommendations to the Village Board of Trustees on such applications

Meetings of the Zoning Board of Appeals are held at a time, date, and place as announced by public notice prior to such meetings.
 
Notice of public meetings are posted at the Village Hall and other public places around town.
